Prolonging Gorgeous Skin

Most experts recommend consistently following a daily skin care routine. Such a routine does not have to be complicated or long and drawn out. It can be executed by itself or as groundwork for more progressive skin care methods.

Choosing The Best Systems for you

The steps of the basic regimen should be adjusted to fit your skin type. You should remember that your skin type can change with the season, diet and age. One change can be a result of menopause, women have been know to change from oily skin to dry skin while going through menopause. A change in the diet can also change the skin, a diet that has more fat will cause the skin to produce more oil.. people don't need to be as alert when in the sun.

Usual Systems

A usual skin care routine would contain the following steps: washing/cleansing, toning (optional depending on skin type), moisturizing and protection from the sun light.

Protection from ultraviolet light (both UVA and UVB) is critical for any skin care regimen. A good UNA+UVB sun block should be put on top of your moisturizer and other products as the last step of the routine whenever sun exposure is expected. Some people use skin care products with added UV blockers. It is definitely better than no sun protection at all and a time saver too. However, using a single, specially formulated sunblock appears to be more effective.

The majority of patients have the best luck with two times daily skin care, however for people with sensitive or dry skin it can be best to use it only once and moisturizing more frequently. Most doctors feel that the regimen should incorporate exfoliation, but not excessively. Exfoliation once or twice a week is usually sufficient. People with fast natural epidermal turnover may need less or none at all.

Fighting acne with Advanced Treatments

For most adults the general remedy will not work as well so it is best to add some type of secondary treatment after doing some research on common products. However, the results from secondary skin care treatments partly depend on whether you properly integrate them with your basic routine. In particular, if you apply products to skin that has not been cleansed, the penetration of active ingredients is decreased. If you use the regimen then apply advanced products, the penetration of active ingredients can still be reduced because the moisturizer has occluded some the entryways.

The best time to apply secondary products is soon after you washed/cleansed, rinsed and slightly patted your skin with a towel, when the skin is clean, warm and still slightly moist. Since many of the active treatments have moisturizing ingredients, you can usually skip a separate product whenever you apply such a product. If you think you need more moisturizing, wait a few minutes for the active product to absorb, and then apply your favorite moisturizer over it.
