Kind of like a parasite, it acquires it's nutrients from the environment around it. Kind of like a chigger you might find hooked to you in the forest, fungi gets nutrition by decomposing tissue and secreting enzymes to break it down. Fungus naturally thrives in soil, water and wet areas, and instances of decay, such as a rotting tree stump. Similar plants and animals, fungi has to have oxygen to live.

Candidiasis is the result of fungus increasing and cultivating on the body. Yeast infection, interestingly, isn't the closest term to describe this ailment. You see, fungus can develop into either a yeast form or a mold form. Fungus that happens by itself is known as yeast. As cells develop into a lot of groups it is known as mold. Normally, the human body can fight off the yeast form of Candida albicans. It's when the yeast forms into mold that the body starts to react and people notice that something is wrong.
