Acne - Not only a Teenage Problem

Acne is a common skin disorder that affects millions worldwide. If you are an adult female, here are some tips on reducing acne outbreaks.

All the women who have acne know how difficult it can be to go without any good treatments. Remember, you aren't the only one. Over 50% of adult women still have some type of adult acne long past the typical teen years.. It is important to know that no matter what, you can find a skin care medicine that will work for you.

One choice may be birth control medication. Hormonal pills such as Estrostep are standard prescriptions that often help stop acne outbreaks. They are not always 100% effective in clearing up acne and at times must be used along with other forms of treatment. Again, a physician is the best person to consult with in helping to determine what the best options may be. When taking any type of hormonal birth control meds, women must remember to follow health restrictions that apply to the use of the pill, such as not smoking cigarettes.

One route is a prescription medication called Accutane. It's a concentrated form of vitamin A. Vitamin A is an effective nutrient that strengthens the protective tissues in the skin. It helps improve and maintain the cells that mucous membranes are composed of. It also inhibits the body’s production of sebum, a kind of oil that the body creates in the sebaceous glands. When the body produces too much oil, the hair follicles can become clogged. Accutane is a very useful product for acne treatment, but has some side effects. It should only be used if all other treatments have been exhausted.

If you are suffering from major imbalances you should see a doctor for hormone adjustments. If hormonal imbalance is the source of your skin condition, a doctor can help identify the problems. If you have a terrible case of acne, hormone treatment is the best option. Hormone Treatments help stop the pores from being clogged with sebum by lessening the stimulation from androgens. Normally testing and medication is involved with a hormone treatment, so it must be administered by a dermatologist. In some cases these methods can work so well that the acne will vanish before it starts.

For mild cases, a number of over-the-counter products are available like Clearasil or Proactiv solution. Most of the OTC products contain an antibacterial cleaning combination of salicylic acid & benzoyl peroxide. Most of OTC treatments tend to be less expensive and very effective with mild skin conditions.

Women have hormonal changes multiple occasions in their lives. If you are suffering from a recent acne outbreak, it could be contributed to the hormones changing in your body.. Acne is sometimes caused by the hormone testosterone, which is produced when a person has high androgen levels.

It is very important to remember, if you are going to use a treatment other that OTC drugs you need to visit a physician first. Professional advice is best to find the best medication for you.
