Why do I Still Have Acne?

Acne is a common skin condition that plagues many people worldwide. If you are an adult female, here are some tips on preventing and minimizing acne outbreaks.

If you are an adult woman who suffers from acne outbreaks, you have probably been frustrated or depressed by this condition. Remember, you aren't the only one. Millions of women worldwide who have long since past their teenage years now continue to go through the trials of adult acne today. If you are a woman who feels like you can't do anything, know that regardless of your situation, there is an acne cure available for your face.

Because of the different hormonal changed females have, women most commonly suffer from acne outbreaks. Acne is sometimes caused by the hormone testosterone, which is produced when the body has abnormal androgen levels.

For small amounts of acne, many over-the-counter products are available like Clearasil or Proactiv solution. These products often use benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or a combination of both. The two products act as an antibacterial cleansing agent and can be effective for less severe cases of adult female acne.

One choice is a very strong prescription medication concentrated from vitamin A., a very powerful nutrient used to help the skin stay strong and restored.. Accutane helps slows the production of sebum while maintaining the well-being of important cells. Pores become filled when there is an over production of oil. Accutane is a very useful product for acne treatment, but has some side effects. It should only be used if all safe methods have been exhausted.

For severe or continual hormone imbalances, you should consider talking to a physician about hormone treatments. If hormonal imbalance is the cause of your acne, a doctor can help identify the problems. Hormone treatments can fight off even the worst cases of acne found in females. The therapy forbids the androgens from stimulating the oil glands, thus cutting down on excessive oil that can cause clogged pores and hair follicles. Commonly testing and medication is required for a hormone treatment, so it must be administered by a dermatologist. In some cases these methods can work so well that the acne will disappear almost before it starts.

One choice may be birth control medication. Hormonal pills such as Estrostep are standard prescribed medications that often help prevent acne outbreaks. They are not always 100% effective in clearing up acne and at times must be used along with other forms of treatment. Again, a physician is the best person to consult with in helping to determine what the best options may be. When taking any type of hormonal birth control meds, women must remember to follow health restrictions that come with use of the pill, such as not smoking cigarettes.

It is very important to remember, if you are going to use a medication other that OTC drugs you need to see a physician first. Professional advice is best to find the right medication for you.
