Pregnancy and Stretch Marks: A Few Elastic Answers


During pregnancy, Striae gravidarium, or stretch marks, is the most horrifying thing that can go wrong for a variety of expectant mothers. Low impact and light aerobic exercises are adapted activities that women can do that are healthy for mother and baby also. Pregnant women should eat as nutritiously as possible by consuming nutritious foods, controlling carbonated beverage consumption, limiting caffeine consumption, and avoiding alcoholic beverages and coffee. Cigarettes should also be avoided by pregnant women.

Women should make their epidermis as elastic as possible to prevent and avoid stretch marks. Consuming plenty of water daily gaurantees well hydrated skin that pulls more easily. 1000 mg of vitamin C per day is advised to strengthen the immune system and maintain the skin at maximum health. To prevent skin spots and highlighting marks when exposed to the sun, use a sunscreen when going outside. It is also wise to keep the skin moist and supple by applying a moisturizing cream. Because stress can lead to breakdowns in the immune system it is advisable to partake in some kind of anti-stressing activity such as stretching, cardiovascular activity, and meditation.

Many products claim to make stretch marks disappear and vanish by healing and preventing them from coming initially. While generally unproven to have any lasting effects, some of them may do a little good. Surgeries are pricey and time consuming. For a lot of women the one way to counter stretch marks is to get the help of a doctor. This kind of surgical procedure is not suggested until later because many times the body will still have some growing or alternating to do.
