Motherhood and Striae Gravidarium: A Few Elastic Answers

For a variety of expectant mothers, the most horrible thing that can happen to them during gestation is Striae gravidarium, or stretch marks. This is a common occurrence during pregnancy, with 50 to 90 percent of all expecting mothers being affected by some type of apparent markings. It can show up on the hips and thighs, breasts, and buttocks but is most most often found on the lower stomach area. Stretch marks are caused by collagen being torn apart from the skin. They can be light in color all the way to a bright red or even purplish color in the later months of gestation.

To avoid and counter striae gravidarium women need to attempt to make their epidermis as elastic as possible. Well hydrated skin pulls better so be sure to consume lots of water daily. 1000 mg of vitamin C per day is recommended to fortify the immune system and maintain the epidermis at maximum health. Apply a sun blocking cream when going outdoors to avoid spotting and highlighting marks. Putting on a moisturizing cream to keep the skin moist and supple is also recommended. Taking part in anti-streesing activities such as stretching or aerobic exercise will prevent the skin from becoming damaged because of stress.

Stretch marks can develop in overweight people and body builders also. The skin does not have enough time to adapt to fluctuations in weight when the body changes rapidly. Body builders will get them as a result of building muscle too quickly. A person can also get them from applying creams and solutions that have steroids for a long period of time. The fortunate news is that even if they might be darker in color at first, they will usually fade and become fainter and less noticeable after a few months.

Even though stretch marks are generally a hereditary disorder, there are various activities you can do to promote maximum pliancy of the skin. Besides attempting to lose weight (which, while pregnant, is not advisable for the child's sake) women can encourage healthy skin by working out frequently, even during the gestation period. Low impact and less intensive aerobic physical activities are adapted activities that women can do that are good for mother and child also. Pregnant women should eat as nutritiously as possible by eating nutritious foods, controlling carbonated sodas consumption, decreasing caffeine consumption, and avoiding alcoholic beverages and coffee. Expectant mothers should also avoid smoking during the entire gestation period.

Striae gravidarium is not painful but can often be itchy or dehydrated and certainly can be unappealing. They are caused when the epidermis is spread out and changed faster than the collagen fibers can sustain it. Unfortunately, the possibility of being affected by striae gravidarium is mostly genetic. There is a high chance you will be affected by them if your mom and aunt or siblings had them. Lifestyle, nutrition, and physical activity level are other factors that affect stretch marks besides genetics.

A variety of products promise to make stretch marks disappear and fade away by recovering and preventing them from coming initially. These products may do a trivial amount of good but are generally not proven to be effective for any lasting effects. Surgical options are pricey and timely. Often seeing a physician may be the only way to counter striae gravidarium for some women. This type of surgical procedure is not suggested until later because many times the body will still have some growing or alternating to do.
