Acne - More Than a Teenage Dilemma

A skin condition that many people suffer from is acne. Here is some information that will be helpful for women in the fight against acne.

If you are an adult female who suffers from acne outbreaks, you have probably often felt frustrated or depressed by this condition. Rest assured; you are not alone. Millions of women worldwide who have long since past their teenage years now continue to go through the trials of adult acne today. If you are a female who feels that all is lost, know that regardless of your situation, there is an acne medicine available for you.

One route is a prescribed medication called Accutane. It is a concentrated form of vitamin A. Vitamin A is an effective nutrient that strengthens the protective tissues in the skin. It helps improve and maintain the cells that mucous membranes are made of. It also inhibits the body’s production of sebum, a type of oil that the body creates in the sebaceous glands. Hair follicles become filled when there is an over production of sebum. Accutane is a very useful product for acne removal, but has some side effects. It should only be used if all safe methods have been exhausted.

Some turn to the use of birth control medication for acne treatment by way of hormone adjustment. They are not always totally effective in clearing up blemishes and at times must be used in combination with other forms of treatment. As always it is best to talk to a physician before using any type of acne treatment. Always follow all regulations on treatments to avoid complications.

For small amounts of acne, a number of over-the-counter products are available such as Clearasil or Proactiv solution. Most of the OTC products contain an antibacterial cleaning combination of benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Most of OTC treatments tend to be less expensive and very effective with mild acne.

Women have hormonal changes multiple times in their lives. If you are suffering from a recent acne outbreak, it may be because of hormone changes going on in your body.. When the body has a high androgen amounts, the hormone known as testosterone, can cause acne outbreaks in the female body.

If you are suffering from major imbalances you should visit a dermatologist for hormone treatments. A doctor will be able to identify the problem if it if hormone related. If you have a terrible case of acne, hormone treatment is the best solution. Hormone Treatments help stop the hair follicles from being filled with sebum by reducing the stimulation from androgens. Commonly testing and medication is required for a hormone treatment, so it must be administered by a physician. They can be very effective treatments, however, even to the extent of stopping the acne before it even occurs.

Remember, whatever level of acne a woman has can be treated and helped. The first step in acne treatment is to talk to a doctor or dermatologist. If you are ready for beautiful skin, it is always possible with some effort and care.
