A lot like a parasite, it gets it's nutrition from the environment around it. Fungi obtains its nutrients by secreting enzymes that decompose and break down tissue so that it can be absorbed by the organism, kind of like a tick you would find hooked to you out in the forest. Fungus naturally thrives in soil, water and wet areas, and instances of decay, such as a rotting tree stump. Fungus needs oxygen to survive, similar to plants and animals.
