The Key to Youthful Skin

Doctors recommend using the same skin care regimen daily. These routines don't need to be elaborate or expensive, and can be used unaided or along with a more serious skin care routine.

Advanced Medicines

For best skin care benefits, the basic system is usually insufficient, especially for people over 30. Adding a well-selected product or two with wisely chosen, proven active ingredients will further improve your results. However, the results from secondary skin care products partly depend on whether you properly integrate them with your basic routine. For example if you try and use the secondary product without proper cleansing, it will not be 100% effective because it can't work through the oil and dirt on the skin. The over use of the cleansers can also diminish the outcome of the medication, so be sure to do the research before mixing treatments.

Choosing The Ideal Regimens for you

Everyone has a different skin type, so the standard routine needs to be adjusted to work best with your skin. Skin can change from a wide variety of factors like weather, diet, or age. One huge change can be a result of menopause, women have been know to go from oily skin to dry skin after going through menopause. A change in the diet can also change the skin, a diet that has more fat will cause the skin to produce more oil.. Although UV rays can be harmful to any skin, the pigmentation of skin makes a difference in the type of sunscreen needed. Light skin needs more attention while dark skinned.

Ideal Steps

A typical skin care system would include the following steps: washing/cleansing, toning (optional depending on skin type), moisturizing and protection from the sun light.

Protection from ultraviolet light (both UVA and UVB) is critical for any skin care routine. A good UNA+UVB sun block can be applied on top of your moisturizer or other treatments as a final step of the routine whenever sun exposure is possible. Some people use skin care products with added UV blockers. It is definitely better than no sun protection at all and a time saver too. However, using a single, specially formulated sunscreen appears to be more effective.

For most people, carrying out the routine 2 times a day is optimal. Some people with dry and/or sensitive skin may have better luck with once daily washing/cleansing while moisturizing two or more times a day. Some experts feel that exfoliation should also be part of a standard regimen. However, daily exfoliation can be overkill and could possibly lead to chronic irritation in some people. one or two times a week is more than enough for exfoliation, however some can go without any exfoliation.

A good time to apply secondary products is soon after you washed/cleansed, rinsed and slightly patted your skin with a towel, i.e. when your skin is clean, warm and still slightly moist. Since many of the active treatments have moisturizers, you can usually forego a separate product whenever you apply such a product. If you think you need more moisturizing, wait a few minutes for the active product to finish, and then apply any moisturizer over it.
