What Skin Care Regimens Work Best?

Most doctors recommend regularly following a daily skin care regimen. Such a routine does not have to be complex or time-consuming. It can be performed by itself or as groundwork for more progressive skin care treatments.

Applying Radical/Active Medicines

For most people the basic regimen will not prove to be effective so it is best to add some type of secondary product after doing some research on well known products. However, the results from secondary skin care products partly depend on whether you properly integrate them with your basic routine. For example if you try and use the secondary medicine without proper cleansing, it will not be 100% effective because it can't work through the oil and dirt on the skin. The over use of the cleansers can also reduce the outcome of the medication, so be sure to do the research prior to mixing products.

The System for You

The steps of the basic regimen should be adjusted to fit your skin type. You should remember that your skin type may change with the season, diet and age. One change can come from menopause, women have been know to change from oily skin to dry skin when going through menopause. An abrupt change in the diet can also change the skin, a diet that has more fat will cause the skin to produce more oil.. Although the sun will be harmful to any skin, the pigmentation of skin makes a difference in the type of sunscreen needed. Light skin needs more care while dark skinned.

Ideal Steps

A usual skin care routine would include the following steps: washing/cleansing, toning (optional depending on skin type), moisturizing and sun protection.

One of the most valuable steps in the regimen can be safeguard from the UV rays, sun block should be applied as the final step any day there will be exposure to the sun. Some people use cosmetics with added UV blockers. It is always better than no sun protection at all and a time saver too. However, using a separate, specially formulated sunblock appears to be more effective.

The majority of people have better results with twice daily skin care, however for people with sensitive or dry skin it can be best to use it only once while moisturizing more often. Most doctors agree that the routine should incorporate exfoliation, but not excessively. A few times a week is sufficient for exfoliation, however some can go without any exfoliation.

You want to add secondary products between cleaning and moisturizing while the face is almost dry to help get the maximum results.. Most of the secondary treatments contain some type of moisturizing ingredients so the need for extra moisturizer is minimal. If it is needed wait for the other treatments to work before adding anything.
