Women's Skin Conditions

Acne is a common skin disorder that plagues millions worldwide. If you are an adult female, here are some tips on reducing acne outbreaks.

If you are an adult female who has acne outbreaks, you have probably often felt frustrated or embarrassed by this condition. Remember, you aren't the only one. Millions of women worldwide who have long since past their teenage years now continue to go through the trials of adult acne today. If you are a woman who feels like you can't do anything, know that regardless of your situation, there is an acne cure available for you.

One option may be birth control medication. Hormonal pills such as Estrostep are standard prescribed medications that often help stop acne outbreaks. This method is not always the most effective, but can work very well along with other forms of treatment. As always it is important to talk to a physician before using any type of acne medication. Always follow all regulations on medications to avoid complications.

One option is a prescription medication called Accutane. It's a concentrated form of vitamin A. Vitamin A is an effective nutrient that strengthens the protective tissues in the skin. It helps repair and maintain the cells that mucous membranes are made of. It also inhibits the body’s production of sebum, a type of oil that the body creates in the sebaceous glands. Pores become clogged when there is an over production of sebum. Accutane should be used when other treatments have been tried and failed because it has some complications such as possible difficulties during pregnancy or birth defects.

Due to the the different hormonal changed women go through, women most commonly suffer from skin conditions. When the body has a high androgen amounts, the hormone known as testosterone, can cause acne outbreaks in the female body.

If you are suffering from major imbalances you should see a doctor for hormone treatments. A doctor will be able to diagnose the problem if it if hormone related. If you have a terrible case of acne, hormone treatment is the best option. The treatment inhibits the androgens from stimulating the oil glands, creating less oil that can cause clogged pores and hair follicles. Commonly testing and medication is required for a hormone treatment, so it must be administered by a physician. In some cases these methods can work so well that the acne will vanish almost before it starts.

For small amounts of acne, many over-the-counter products are available like Clearasil or Proactiv solution. Most of the OTC treatments consist of an antibacterial cleaning combination of benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Most of these tend to be less expensive and very effective with mild acne.

Remember, whatever level of skin condition a woman has can be treated and helped. The first step in acne treatment is to talk to a doctor or dermatologist. If you are ready for beautiful skin, it is always possible with some effort and care.
