Why are there so many of us getting overweight? The possible solution to constant hunger is to try what many professionals say is the ideal way to consume food now; eat five or six small meals over the course of the day. The idea is that if you are able to consume little amounts more often you won't snack on junk foods because you need nutritional supplement every few hours. It has also been theorized that the body can only take in a certain number of nutrients and so much food at any given time. Eating large amounts at any one sitting will actually do just the opposite because the body will create fat with the excess food. The worst thing you can do is skip eating all day and eat a big meal at night. This is a bad shock to the metabolism because it is dormant throughout the day then all of a sudden forced to process an oversized meal. You can feel sleepy and lazy for up to several hours after eating a large meal like this at dinner.

When it comes to how often we should eat, most professionals agree that it less important when you eat and more on total caloric intake. If youonly eat when you feel hungry it could be two meals a day or four. Most people who like to skip meals pick to skip breakfast, and this is the most important meal in the diet Breakfast is important to boost your metabolism in the morning so that it is always burning calories all day and doesn't go into hibernation mode during the afternoon. Plus, if you skip breakfast in the morning you are more likely to be very hungry when you finally do get a chance to eat and will eat too much food. If you normally don't eat breakfast, try getting into the habit of consuming foods that the body needs that we normally do not consume enough of during the day anyway. Fruits, low-fat dairy products, and whole grains are great foods that are not too filling and can make you active all day.

Professionals say eating multiple times a day is healthier than consuming all the calories you need in a day at a specific time because it can reduce eating and snacking between meals. Youshouldn't force down all the calories you can eat 3 times everyday, just a little meal only enough to get full and do not snack between the 3 scheduled meals. Cutting out snacks and high calorie drinks such as sodas, sports drinks, and coffee will reduce your caloric intake by hundreds of calories a day.

Most doctors and scientists agree that to miss a meal or more than one is not beneficial to one's overall health. This is due to the fact that our metabolism reacts in accordance with our dietary needs. If our bodies are receiving plenty of calories and nutrients, our metabolism feels safe expending calories as it normally would. When you remove a meal or multiple meals, you are telling your body that there is a shortage of food and that it needs to start saving energy. This is the reason some of us get tired and grumpy when we don't eat. The debate of how many meals we should consume will go on for a long time, but the best thing to remember to do is eating the proper amount and at the right times for your metabolism.

It has been proven by experts that women eat more high calorie foods during the day when they skip breakfast. These women had higher levels of cholesterol than females who ate a good breakfast each morning. This is because the females that choose to skip a meal in the morning eat more unhealthy high calorie snacks to make up for the loss. The hungrier a person is the more likely they will be constantly grazing on snacks and foods that are easy to get and these foods have little or no nutritional value.
