If our body is receiving plenty of food and nutrients, our metabolism feels safe expending calories as it normally would. The body will have a natural reaction to a shortage of calories and will slow the metabolism to help save energy during the time it has a shortage. This is why some of us get tired and grumpy when we don't eat. So is the answer to eat smaller meals more often? It is likely a debate that will go on for some time, because the main factor that determines how many calories to eat everyday is individual metabolism.

It has been proven by experts that females consume more high calorie foods during the day when they choose not to eat breakfast. This also resulted in a higher level of cholesterol than the people tested who eat healthy early in the day. This is because the women that don't eat a meal in the morning eat more unhealthy high calorie snacks to balance the consumption. The worst part is that the fast foods that are accessible to most people are unhealthy and high in calories, and when you don't eat meals and become hungry during the day these foods are the things you will eat.
