In the last couple years people have come to notice a serious problem that numerous Americans are suffering from. The issue is obesity and it is more standard now than ever. What is creating the obesity epidemic? Increasing amounts of fast and unhealthy foods, large portion sizes, and sedentary lifestyles are all important factors in why the world now struggles with being overweight. It looks as if there should be a simple solution to this problem, but it has caused a lot of confusion about working out and diet. In the diet category, it has been a debate for a long time between doctors and scientists on both sides about how often you should eat.

One view of some experts is to consume five to six small meals everyday to relieve constant hunger. Because we need consistent nutritional supplements it is good to eat a planned healthy meal every few hours and not unhealthy snacks. It has also been theorized that the body can only absorb so many nutrients and so much food at one time. If you are consuming too much at one time, it could be added to your body as unwanted fat because the body has an excess of calories. People that don't eat all day long then eat too much at dinner have a terrible eating habit. Basically, your metabolism is in hibernation throughout the day and then is overloaded with too many calories at once. A person may feel sleepy and lazy for as many as several hours after having a over sized meal like this at dinner.

On the subject of frequency of meals, most experts say that it less important when you eat and more on total caloric intake. If youonly eat when you experience hunger it may be two meals a day or four. You've probably heard that old motto that breakfast is the most valuable meal of the day. So why is it the one that everybody skips? Without a meal in the morning the body will go into hibernation because it feels the need to save energy. Also, if you skip breakfast in the morning you are more likely to be very hungry when you will be able to eat and will eat too much food. For those of us who can't eat breakfast you need to pay attention to eating healthy foods that you are most likely not eating. To get great energy from foods with low calories eat low fat dairy products and whole grains whenever possible.

Professionals say eating multiple times a day is better than eating all the calories your body needs in a day at a specific time because it will help to cut down on snacking between meals. Youshouldn't force down all the calories you can eat 3 times a day, just eat a little meal only enough to be full and do not snack before and after the 3 designated meals. To instantly reduce the amount of calories consumed everyday you need to cut out unhealthy drinks like soda and coffee, this will show instant weight loss.

missing meals is one practice that most professionals will admit is very bad for your health. This is due to the fact that our metabolism acts in response to our dietary needs. If our body is getting plenty of food and nutrients, our metabolism feels safe expending calories as it normally would. The body will have a natural response to a shortage of food and will slow the metabolism to help save energy during the time it has a shortage. This can cause tiredness, a drop in functionality, and possibly irritability. The debate on the amount of meals a person should consume will go on for a long time, but the best thing to focus on is eating the proper amount and at the right times for your metabolism.

In a recent study, British doctors found that women who didn't eat breakfast tended to consume more calories throughout the day to make up for the period of fasting. This also resulted in a higher level of cholesterol than those who eat healthy in the mornings. This is because the women that don't eat breakfast eat more unhealthy high calorie snacks to make up for the loss. The worst part is that the snacks that are available to most people are unhealthy and high in calories, and when you skip out on meals and start to get hungry during the day these foods are the items you will eat.
