Rehydrating the Skin with Moisturizers for a Healthy Appearance

Human beings are pretty concerned about the condition of their skin if the past is any indication. And should we not be? As the biggest organ of the body, the epidermis (the scientific title for skin) serves a very important role of holding the body's moisture retained while keeping foreign matter out. A gaurding coat of lipids that covers the skin is the thing that makes the body able to do this. When people participate in our daily lives, the normal activities will often peel our skin of this protective layer. This is why the skin can do well from the use of a moisturizer occasionally. The skin's regular condition can be restored by the application of moisturizers.

Moisturizing creams are mixtures of substances that make the outer layers of skin softer and more pliable by retaining the body's normal level of hydration. They do this by implementing a number of ingredients such as lipids, humectants, emollients, lubricants, and perfumes to compose a completed product. These ingredients help our skin not only to retain the body's natural hydration level, but can have various results also. The first benefit is that a moisturizer can help build a protective layer against losing water the skin experiences while this shielding layer gives the skin a period to heal itself. When the earth damages the skin and makes it dry, a restoration of moisture to the skin can retard the symptoms of aging and help repair wrinkles and blemishes on the top of the skin.

There are a variety of different moisturizers from companies that promise to do anything from restoring your skin's natural moisture to making imperfections and age lines leave. If your skin can truly get better from the use of a product like this, wouldn't it be in your best interest to choose the most appropriate one that matches your skin type? Is there really a difference in all these various products? Don't they all generally just accomplish the same thing? If all of our skin was the same that would probably be the way it is. Unfortunately, the skin is a complicated organ that contains special properties that are unique to each of us. So when it comes to treating our own special skin conditions, one certain kind of moisturizer can definitely be more effective. A good knowledge of what goes in all these products is the key to choosing the kind of moisturizing cream that most adheres to your skin type.

The skin is made up of three layers; the epidermis, which is the upper most layer, the dermis in the middle, and the layer on the bottom that also has a layer of fat cells called the hypodermis. Oxygen and nutrients are moved to the other parts of the body by the skin. The skin contains hair follicles, sweat glands, and sebaceous glands. The sebaceous gland produces an oily substance that secretes to shield the upper layer of skin. Acne breaks out when an excess of oil is produced by the sebaceous glands.

Just below the layer of fat that encompasses the upper layer of skin is the stratum corneum. Harmful matter is kept out of the body by cornified cells that are a continuous guard for our bodies current that washes things back to shore. Cornified cells hook themselves to the harmful material and wash themselves up and out of the skin.

Most moisturizing creams are a combination of oil and water soluble parts called an emulsion. Other modern improvements are the addition of vesicles, microscopic air bubbles composed of biological components. These components are useful in retaining the skin's defensive layer and also transport active ingredients inside the cells. It is essential for consumers with dermatologic disorders to properly apply moisturizers. Improper application of a product could lead to a worsening of the condition.

Even though the exact meaning of skin dryness is not clear, moisturizers still say they can restore those properties. The symptoms include dry and uncomfortable sensations that include pain, itchiness, stinging, and tingling and a rough surface. Redness may also be obvious. Flaky, cracked skin with white spots appears in more severe examples. A dermatologist known as Pierard once said, "Skin dryness is not an individual, clearly defined condition but represents a series of completely unrelated variations in the structure of the stratum corneum associated." In other words, the skin can dry out by the environment around you in a variety of different ways.

Companies over the years have made bold claims on what their moisturizers can do if applied on a routine basis, but understanding the skin and the environmental effects around us is knowing that usually these elaborate claims are basically impossible. There are a multitude of products in existence that are more effective than others, but your specific skin type is the most important factor when considering which is the most efficient moisturizer to use on your skin.
