Superbowl Sunday

This is my first post of the day not because I've been doing something like watching the Superbowl (though I am given to understand that missing it is thought as unAmerican as missing fireworks on July 4) but because a co-blogger and Scrabble rival has been visiting for the day.

Now, I'm nothing even close to a Professor Bainbridge on wine, but readers who share my (and RW Apple's) taste for Alsatian Rieslings that are as dry as they come are advised to steer clear of the Schlumberger Grand Cru Saering 2000. After I explained exactly what I wanted to the nice folks at Oddbins, this is what they disappointed me with, the second time they got the same request wrong (fool me once, shame on me... fool me twice, etc.). Anyway, after some consideration Amy and I agreed that it did not taste exactly like Welsh's white grape juice, but the resemblance was sufficiently similar that I set the bottle aside to live a new life as coq au riesling.

But the 2004 Finca Flichman Malbec? A simple and yummy bit of tipple.
