Acne; Various Kinds of Agitation

When pores and hair follicles become clogged and develop blemishes on the top of the skin it is known as acne. These imperfections can take many forms including pimples, cysts, abscesses, open comedos, and in more severe cases even permanent scars. Acne most commonly happens in both men and women during the adolescent period that is known as puberty. This is when the human body begins to undergo big changes in hormone levels as a result of developing into a mature, adult body capable of sex. Acne most commonly affects teenage boys, but it is not limited to just this group. Acne can affect both sexes of all ages; sometimes all the way through their whole lives. This is more rare but definitely not abnormal.

Sores with a whitish or yellowish hue are known as pustules. They can form from whiteheads or blackheads. They are round sores that have become inflamed because of aggravated sebaceous glands. The human body has thousands of sebaceous glands that produce an oil-like chemical called sebum. Infection and irritation can develop when the body produces an excess of sebum. Cysts are larger pus filled sores that can be seen on the top but are actually embedded within the epidermis. Because of the size and depth of the inflammation, cysts are often very painful and can be as large as an inch across the affected area. They appear as a result of the contents of a comedo spreading across the affected area and the bodies natural defense of developing pus to reduce these aspects. Cysts have the potential to leave deep and permanent blemishes. Blemishes that seem more obvious on the skin are known as inflammatory acne. Inflammatory acne can mostly be seen on the face, but can develop on a number of other spots on the body such as the shoulders, neck, chest, upper arms, scalp, back, and legs. The pimple is the most obvious form of acne observed. A pimple is when a pore or hair follicle becomes agitated and develops tiny red spots on the skin surface. Before the blemish is fully formed there are symptoms that can be seen. These signs include blackheads, closed comedos, cysts, and pustules. Blackheads are clogged pores that have a darker color with a hole at the top of the epidermis. They are more often than not found on the nose, but can also be found on the cheeks and forehead also. White heads are slightly different in that they don't have an open ended pore. They are marks that seem to be bulging out from under the skin. They will most often turn into pustules if not irritated for a few days. If they are squeezed or popped, they will often become more infected and could become permanently scarred. So it is a good idea to leave the whiteheads alone. Acne sufferers with whiteheads would be better off using a gently exfoliating cleanser, like Proactive solution or Neutrogena.

Inflammatory and Non-infalammatory are the two major types of acne. The non-inflammatory is divided into two categories; closed and open comedo. A closed comedo is also known as a whitehead and appears on the skin surface as a small whitish or yellow spot. The open comedo is otherwise called a blackhead. It is dark when seen but, despite common belief, is not a surplus of oil and grime. It is in reality a build-up of melanin, a chemical that encompasses the pigment of the skin. Using a gently exfoliating cleanser with anti-inflammatory properties like Proactiv or another restorative product that has aloe vera can minimize blackheads and whiteheads.

Whatever kind of pimples there is, there is an effective treatment that is out there and available.Greater knowledge of the various types of acne will give the person a more in-depth idea of what the best form of treatment will be. Remember, an acne problemdoesn’t have to make you suffer all your life. With some research and time anybody can find the treatment that is correct for them.
