Acne; Various Types of Agitation

When pores and hair follicles become clogged and develop sores on the top of the skin it is known as acne. These blemishes can take many forms including pimples, cysts, abscesses, black heads, and in worse cases even permanent scarring. Acne most often happens in both men and women during the adolescent period that is known as puberty. This is when the human body begins to undergo big hormonal changes as a result of building a grown-up, adult body capable of sex. Acne most commonly has an effect on teenage males, but it is not limited to just this group. Acne can affect both genders of all ages; sometimes throughout their complete adult lives. This is more rare but without a doubt not abnormal.

There are two major types of acne; non-inflammatory and inflammatory acne. Open comedos and closed comedos are the two major categories of non-inflammatory acne. A closed comedo is otherwise known as a whitehead and appears on the skin surface as a small white or yellow spot. An open comedo is otherwise known as a blackhead. It can be dark when seen but, despite popular belief, is not an excess of dirt. It is in reality a build-up of melanin, a substance that makes up the color of the skin. Using a gently exfoliating cleanser with anti-inflammatory aspects like Proactiv or another moisturizing product that has aloe vera can minimize blackheads and whiteheads.

Blemishes that appear more obviously on the skin are known as inflammatory acne. Inflammatory acne can most obviously be seen on the face, but can develop on a variety of other locations on the body such as the shoulders, neck, chest, upper arms, scalp, back, and legs. The zit is the most obvious form of acne seen. A pimple is when a pore or hair follicle becomes inflamed and develops small red spots on the skin surface. Before the sore is fully formed there are symptoms that can be seen. These signs include open comedos, closed comedos, cysts, and pustules. Open comedos are clogged pores that have a darker appearance with an open end at the surface of the epidermis. The nose is the most common area that they are seen but they can be observed on the cheeks and forehead as well. White heads are a little bit different in that they don't have a pore opening. They are splotches that seem to be bulging out from under the skin. If left alone for a few days whiteheads will form into pustules. If the pimples are squeezed or popped, they will generally become more infected and could cause permanent scarring. So it is a good idea to leave the whiteheads alone. People with whiteheads would be better off using a gently exfoliating cleanser, like Proactive solution or Noxema.

Sores with a whitish or yellowish color are known as pustules. They can develop from whiteheads or blackheads. They are round sores that have become inflamed because of itirritated sebaceous glands. The body has lots of sebaceous glands that produce an oil-like chemical called sebum. Infection and irritation can develop when the body produces an excess of sebum. Cysts are larger pus filled sores that develop on the top but are actually deep within the epidermis. Because of the size and depth of the inflammation, cysts are often very painful and can be as big as an inch across the affected area. They form as a result of the contents of a comedo moving across the infected area and the bodies natural defense of producing pus to reduce these effects. Permanent scars can result from cysts.

Whatever kind of zits there is, there is an effective treatment that is out there and available.More knowledge of the different kinds of acne will give the person a fuller idea of what the most effective form of medication will be. Remember, zitsdoesn’t have to make you suffer all your life. With a bit of research and time anybody can find the treatment that is perfect for them.
