A yeast infection can normally be fought off by the human's natural defenses. It's when the yeast develops into mold that the body starts to react and people observe that something is wrong.

Candida albicans is the species of the fungus that causes yeast infections. The body is not harmed by most of these but there are over one-hundred kinds of Candida albicans and more than one-hundred thousand types of fungus. A fungus has unique aspects that make it coincidental but different from a plant or bacteria. It is almost a combination of characteristics from both plants and animals. Photosynthesis, the process plants undergo to change sun rays to nutrients, is not a trait of fungus who doesn't rely on this. A lot like a parasite, it obtains it's nutrition from the elements around it. Fungi gets its nutrients by secreting enzymes that decompose and break down tissue so it can be absorbed by the organism, kind of like a tick you would find hooked to you out in the woods. Fungus naturally thrives in dirt, water and damp areas, and instances of decay, such as a rotting tree stump. Fungus has to have oxygen to thrive, just like plants and animals.
