Female Acne

Acne is a common skin condition that plagues many people worldwide. If you are an acne sufferer, here are some tips on reducing acne outbreaks.

If you are an adult female who suffers from acne outbreaks, you have probably often felt frustrated or embarrassed by this condition. Remember, you aren't the only one. Over 50% of adult females still have some type of skin condition long past the typical teen years.. If you are a female who feels like you can't do anything, know that in any situation, there is an acne medicine available for you.

Because of the various hormonal changed women go through, women are more likely to suffer from skin conditions. Acne is sometimes caused by the hormone testosterone, which is produced when the body has abnormal androgen levels.

One route is a prescription medication named Accutane. It is a concentrated form of vitamin A. Vitamin A is an effective nutrient that strengthens the protective tissues in the skin. Accutane helps slows the production of oil while maintaining the well-being of important cells. Hair follicles become clogged when there is an over production of oil. Accutane should be used when other treatments have been tried and failed because it has some side effects such as possible difficulties during pregnancy or birth defects.

For severe or prolonged hormone imbalances, you may consider talking to a physician about hormone treatments. If hormonal imbalance is the source of your acne, a doctor can help diagnose the problems. Hormone treatments can be effective against even the most severe cases of acne found in women. The treatment forbids the androgens from stimulating the oil glands, thus cutting down on excessive oil that can cause clogged pores and hair follicles. A blood test and often a prescription for oral medication are involved with hormone treatments, so it is only available through a doctor. They can be very effective treatments, however, even to the point of stopping the acne before it even occurs.

Some turn to the use of birth control pills for acne treatment by way of hormone adjustment. They are not always totally effective in clearing up acne and at times must be used along with other forms of treatment. Again, a physician is the best person to consult with in helping to determine what the best options may be. When taking any type of hormonal birth control pills, women must remember to follow health restrictions that apply to the use of the pill, like not smoking cigarettes.

For small amounts of acne, a number of over-the-counter products are available like Clearasil or Proactiv solution. Most of the OTC treatments consist of an antibacterial cleaning combination of benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Most of OTC treatments tend to cost less and be very effective with mild skin conditions.

Remember, whatever level of skin condition a woman has can be cured and helped. The first step in acne prevention is to talk to a doctor or dermatologist. If you are ready for beautiful skin, it is very attainable with some effort and care.
