Adult Acne Treatment That works

Acne is a common skin disorder that plagues many people worldwide. If you are an acne sufferer, here are some tips on reducing acne outbreaks.

If you are an adult female who has acne outbreaks, you have probably been frustrated or embarrassed by this condition. Rest assured; you are not alone. Over 50% of adult females still suffer from some type of adult acne long past the typical teen years.. If you are a woman who feels that all is lost, know that in any situation, there is an acne treatment available for you.

One route is a prescription medication called Accutane. It is a concentrated form of vitamin A. Vitamin A is an effective nutrient that strengthens the protective tissues in the skin. Accutane helps slow down the production of sebum while maintaining the health of important cells. When the body produces too much oil, the hair follicles can become clogged. Accutane is an outstanding product for acne treatment, but has some side effects. It should only be used if all safe methods have been exhausted.

Over the counter acne treatments such as Proactive solution are very common in local drug stores, and can be very effective when treating mild cases of acne. Most of the OTC treatments contain an antibacterial cleaning combination of salicylic acid & benzoyl peroxide. Most of these tend to cost less and be very effective with mild skin conditions.

Women have hormonal changes multiple times in their lives. If you are suffering from a recent acne outbreak, it could be contributed to the hormones changing in your body.. When the body has a high androgen amounts, the hormone known as testosterone, can cause acne outbreaks in the female body.

If you are suffering from major imbalances you should see a Dr. for hormone adjustments. If hormonal imbalance is the source of your acne, a doctor can help diagnose the problems. Hormone treatments can fight off even the worst cases of acne found in females. The treatment inhibits the androgens from stimulating the oil glands, creating less oil that can cause clogged pores and hair follicles. Normally testing and medication is involved with a hormone treatment, so it must be administered by a physician. They can be very effective treatments, however, even to the point of stopping the acne before it even occurs.

One choice may be birth control pills. Hormonal pills such as Estrostep are standard prescriptions that often help prevent acne outbreaks. This method isn't always the most effective, but can be used along with other types of medication. Again, a physician is the best person to consult with in helping to determine what the best options may be. When taking any type of hormonal birth control pills, women must remember to follow health restrictions that come with use of the pill, like not smoking cigarettes.

It is very important to remember, if you are going to use a medication other that OTC drugs you need to see a dermatologist first. Professional advice is needed to find the right treatment for you.
