Whither Starbucks?

I do enjoy the convenience of flying out of (or into) New Haven's Tweed airport-- a layover is inevitable, but the time it takes to get to New York or Hartford for a direct flight elsewhere is basically the equivalent of an extra leg of the trip. The downside, however, is that all planes out of Tweed stop in Philadelphia, whose airport is something of a culinary wasteland.

The airport food is bad enough-- most airport food is bad, so my standards are low there even though Philadelphia is lower than most. But even more problematically, there doesn't appear to be a Starbucks anywhere in the airport.

Desperate, I have now tried every emporium in the C- and F- terminals that purports to serve gourmet coffee drinks, culminating in today's disappointing "cappucino" from Hudson News. In the future, I will try to time my layovers so they do not come during the mid-afternoon when I normally want a tasty and caffeinated hot drink.

Yale Law Students For Alito

The New York Times reports:

Firing back against the formation of Law Students Against Alito at his predominantly liberal alma mater, Yale Law School, about 150 of its students and alumni signed a letter urging senators to support his confirmation. It is scheduled to run as an advertisement Wednesday in the Congressional publication The Hill, and versions of the letter will be sent to senators as well, said Keith Appell, a conservative publicist organizing efforts to support the nomination.

The ad is here. The letter is here. (I signed the letter, but not the ad-- the two are not the same). The website of Yale Law Students/Alumni For Alito is here.

Just for the record, I do continue to think that "it is a mystery why one should care what Yale students think of the Alito nomination, other than the fact that we are a bunch of more or less randomly chosen overachievers who aced the LSAT." But since people do appear to care, there you have it.
